Mid Course (14km Run/Walk)
All of the trails at Cougar have been built with mountain bikes in mind, that means bermed corners and fast rolling sections, guaranteed to suit the speedsters. We’ve carefully hand picked the trails that will be best suited for running and walking with the help of our resident local expert, so rest assured you’ll be having some fun out there!
Starting on the lower field of the sports grounds, you’ll have a nice 1km of relatively wide, flat trail to start with. This will help all the competitive folk jostle for position and help everyone find their rhythm before reaching the first climb up to Jungle Junction. This is a busy intersection that you’ll see twice on your course so make sure you pay attention to the signs and marshals!
The remainder of your course is made up of a mix of single track in juvenile pine forest, mature pine forest, native bush and small sections of gravel road to link it all together. Make sure you save some fuel in the tank for the last climb of your course back up to Jungle Junction past the big cave then enjoy an awesome downhill trail all the way to the finish!
*IMPORTANT – If you are planning on doing any training runs in Cougar MTB park, be aware that it is first and foremost a Mountain Bike Park! Some trails are not suitable for running at any time so please make sure you read and OBEY the signage at each trail. The trail signage clearly state if they are mountain bike only trails, respect the signage and help us keep the trails safe for everyone. The last thing we want is for runners to be on technical, steep downhill trails with mountain bikers. Event day will be the only day that we have full use of the park.
